This study mapped out and analysed approximately 160 sustainability initiatives undertaken by Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) wine groups in the five main producing European countries. While sustainability approaches and solutions vary significantly across the countries covered, the study shows that the PDO wine sector has developed a wealth of technical knowledge and practical experience in this area. This makes PDO wine groups key interlocutors for policy-makers and other actors of the agri-food chain at the national and European level to ensure the transition to more sustainable food systems.
