The objective of the project is to assist the Commission in providing further guidance on "utilisation" of genetic resources by different sectors with a view to ensuring harmonised application of the Regulation on EU Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) which is implementing the Nagoya Protocol in the EU.
To achieve this objective, the project has prepared guidance documents for nine sectors. For each sector, an informal “Guidance Development Group” (GDG), bringing together a small number of experts in the field from the private sector, governments and research, has been set-up to work on the development of a first draft guidance document.
The draft guidance documents have been submitted to the Commission in November 2016.
