In 2014, DG SANCO decided to launch a study to collect data on the trade of illegal and counterfeit pesticides in the EU and to provide an analysis of the legal and administrative tools to combat this trade. The main objective of the study is to identify patterns of trade of illegal and counterfeit products within the EU and entering the EU and assess the existing regulatory framework in the EU.
The results of this analysis were intended to feed into further Commission initiatives to promote best practices, for the drafting of guidance documents for Member States authorities and as a basis for the establishment of implementing measures in application of Article 6.8 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009.
